Oddington, Gloucestershire

Location

Named in the Telegraph’s ‘48 poshest villages in Britain’, Oddington (made up of Lower and Upper Oddington) lies two miles east of Stow-on-the-Wold in the North Cotswolds. The village is adjacent to Daylesford, famously known for being the home of Daylesford Organic: an award-wining farm/shop/restaurant/garden centre/gym, & spa complex run by the Bamford family.

History

Oddington is a village brimming with history; records of the village date back to 681 AD.

The church of St Nicholas in the village dates back to the 12th century and is home to one of the largest and well-preserved medieval wall paintings in Britain - the artwork was only discovered in the 20th century when renovations revealed the historic work.

Traditionally a cattle farming and traditional trades village, Oddington has always been a prosperous village. Large manor houses and mansions have increasingly populated the village over the previous centuries.

Walk around the village with us…

The leafy, well-maintained village features smart village greens and landscaped gardens, making for the most scenic strolls. Noting the history of the village, Oddington is packed with traditional Cotswold manor houses, postcard cottages and farm buildings, especially in the lower village.

Despite the village housing two of the most popular pubs in the area, Oddington is a quiet, peaceful village that avoids the mass tourism facing nearby villages such as Bourton-on-the-Water and The Slaughters.

The Horse and Groom lies in the heart of Upper Oddington. The cosy village pub comes to life in winter, boasting an extensive menu of British classics to enjoy whilst warming against the large log burner in the centre of the pub - a pet favourite too!

The pub also houses a small village shop, perfect for topping up on the essentials when on a staycation.

In Lower Oddington you will find the village’s second (and newer) pub, The Fox. Run by the Bamford family, the pub features British classics with a flair using produce from Daylesford Farm.
